ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

Arusha National Park, situated in the northeastern region of Tanzania near the city of Arusha, is a quaint and picturesque reserve. It boasts stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and offers a diverse and scenic environment with a rich variety of flora and fauna. The park encompasses a range of landscapes, from lakes, waterfalls, and swamps to volcanoes, mountains, and tropical rainforests, creating an ideal habitat for a wide array of animals. The swamps, rainforest, and lakes attract numerous beautiful bird species, including the silvery-cheeked hornbill and vibrant flamingos. Notably, it is the exclusive location in northern Tanzania where the black-and-white colobus monkey can be easily spotted.

MOUNT MERU

Within the confines of Arusha National Park lies Mount Meru, a dormant volcano and Tanzania's second-highest peak at 4,566 meters (14,990 feet). While challenging, this mountain offers breathtaking views from its summit, encompassing the park's steppes, Mount Kilimanjaro, and the Momella Lakes. For those seeking a different perspective, a day hike on Mount Meru provides a refreshing change, and organized climbs to the peak are available.

Safari enthusiasts can partake in popular activities within Arusha National Park, such as canoeing on the lakes or engaging in a walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger. The Momella Lakes in the northeast, surrounded by an open landscape, house a variety of animals, including hippos and diverse bird species. Near the lakes, numerous bucks and buffalo can be observed, offering a unique and up-close wildlife experience distinct from traditional safari vehicle excursions. This ensures a memorable safari encounter.

Arusha town is conveniently located approximately 45 minutes away from Arusha National Park, while Mount Kilimanjaro stands at a distance of about 50 km (31 miles).
